Rheocoalescence: Relaxation Time through Coalescence of Droplets

چکیده

The dynamics of the pendant drop coalescing with a sessile to form single daughter droplet is known bridge. bridge evolution begins point contact between two drops leading liquid neck size comparable diameter drops. To probe this phenomenon in polymeric fluids, we quantify radius growth during coalescence using high-speed imaging. In study, unveil existence three regimes on basis concentration ratio c/c*, namely, inertioelastic c/c* < ce/c*, viscoelastic ce/c* 20, and elasticity dominated > 20. Our results suggest that time (t) obeys power-law behavior tb, such coefficient b has steady value regimes, monotonic decrease regime. On dependence ratios, propose new measurement technique, rheocoalescence, which possibly can predict relaxation these fluids We also show deviation from universality proposed literature for

Decompressing emulsion droplets favors coalescence.

The destabilization process of an emulsion under flow is investigated in a microfluidic device. The experimental approach enables us to generate a periodic train of droplet pairs, and thus to isolate and analyze the basic step of the destabilization, namely, the coalescence of two droplets which collide. We demonstrate a counterintuitive phenomenon: coalescence occurs during the separation phas...

Coalescence of polymer droplets: experiments on collision

The coalescence of polymer droplets is a fundamental phenomenon which appears for example when mixing two polymers. When two polymeric droplets collide, a transient regime appears, which results from a competition between interfacial and viscoelastic effects : the spherical droplets deform to give birth to a new drop in a short time (tc) and the drop shape stabilizes after a long time. A novel ...

Coalescence and Breakup of Oppositely Charged Droplets

The coalescence process of oppositely charged drops for different electrical conductivities of liquids is presented. When the electrical conductivity was relatively low, oppositely charged drops failed to coalesce under sufficiently high electrical fields and capillary ripples were formed on the surfaces of droplets after rebound. For a high electrically conductive liquid, it was found that a c...

Flocculation and coalescence of micron-size emulsion droplets

We analyze the relative importance of droplet deformation, surfactant transfer and interfacial rheology for the properties and stability of emulsions. The appearance of deformation (flattening or film) in the zone of contact of two interacting droplets has the following consequences. It enhances the importance of the surface forces of intermolecular origin and gives rise to contributions from t...

Coalescence and splitting of confined droplets at microfluidic junctions.

The ability to merge two droplets is an important component of droplet-based lab-on-a-chip devices, yet flow-induced coalescence is difficult to achieve due to long film drainage times compared with relatively short residence times. We examine droplet collisions at a simple microfluidic T-junction and characterize the response for a wide range of droplet sizes and speeds. We find that three pri...
